Lanita Llyod knew she needed support—but more importantly, she knew she needed the right support. From the very beginning, she advocated for herself, requesting Tiffany Tolliver as her case manager and standing firm in that decision.
Tiffany approached Lanita’s situation with compassion, consistency, and a genuine willingness to listen. Alongside her, supervisor, Estela Ortiz, played an important role in supporting Lanita’s progress, helping ensure that the care and guidance she received remained steady and effective.
Lanita had faced significant challenges—working to overcome substance abuse, healing from domestic violence, and striving every day to provide for her children. Her daughter, who has autism, required patience, advocacy, and deep care, while her 17-year-old son was navigating the path to adulthood, needing guidance and stability in his own way.
Another key source of support in Lanita’s journey was Scotty. In moments when Lanita felt overwhelmed or unable to open up to others, Scotty was the one person she trusted and felt comfortable talking to. He supported her in ways that complemented the work being done around her, helping her stay grounded and engaged even during difficult times.
Progress didn’t come overnight.
There were setbacks, difficult days, and moments when the weight of everything felt overwhelming. Still, Lanita kept moving forward—one step at a time. With the combined support of her care team and access to resources, she began to rebuild her life. She remained committed to her sobriety, focused on her goals, and present for both of her children.
Over time, that determination began to take shape.
Lanita grew stronger, more confident, and more grounded. She started to believe in herself again—and in the possibility of a brighter future. Through the support of the program and a referral from Welfare to Work, she secured a job with the city—an important milestone that reflected her dedication and resilience.
Soon after, she achieved another major goal.
Lanita moved into a three-bedroom home, creating a safe and stable environment for herself and her children. It was more than just a place to live—it was a fresh start.
Clean. Sober. Focused.
What once felt like an ending became the beginning of something new. Lanita’s journey is a powerful example of resilience, growth, and what’s possible when someone is given the support, opportunity, and space to rebuild their life.
