The Providence Foundation Community Builders Scholarship, a testament to our dedication to honoring the rich legacy and vibrant spirit of Bayview-Hunters Point as we “Honor the Past to Build the Future.”. This scholarship continues our mission to invest in the future leaders of our community.
Bayview-Hunters Point is a vibrant and historically significant neighborhood in the southeastern corner of San Francisco. Known for its rich cultural heritage and strong sense of community, Bayview-Hunters Point has been home to some of the city’s most resilient and hardworking residents. The area has undergone significant redevelopment over the years, transforming from a predominantly industrial district to a community with diverse residential, commercial, and recreational spaces1.
Despite facing challenges, the residents of Bayview-Hunters Point have continuously demonstrated their commitment to improving their neighborhood and supporting one another. This scholarship aims to honor their legacy by providing educational opportunities to those who have contributed to or plan to contribute to the community’s growth and development.
Scholarship Requirements
- Must be a resident of San Francisco or Bayview-Hunters Point or have strong ties to the community.
- Must be a high school senior, college student, or adult returning to education.
- Demonstrate a minimum GPA (e.g., 2.5 or higher) for academic eligibility.
- Accepted into or currently enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college, vocational program, or training institution.
- Option A (Prerequisite): Applicants must demonstrate prior volunteer experience preferably within the Bayview-Hunters Point community or in another part of San Francisco as part of the application. This ensures that applicants have already contributed to the mission of building and sustaining the community.
- Option B (Requirement upon Award): Recipients who do not have prior volunteer experience will commit to completing 40 volunteer hours in the community as part of their scholarship agreement. This could include activities like mentoring, assisting local organizations, or participating in community events.
Applicants should submit an essay describing:
- Their connection to Bayview-Hunters Point.
- How they have contributed to or plan to contribute to the community.
- Their educational and career goals, and how the scholarship will help achieve them.
- At least two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to the applicant’s character, community involvement, or academic efforts.
- Recipients are required to provide a brief annual update during the scholarship period, detailing their progress in education and community involvement.
- Three Letters of Recommendation: From individuals who can speak to your character, academic efforts, or community involvement.
- Most Recent Official Transcript: Provide an official transcript from your current or most recent school.
- Proof of Enrollment: A copy of your acceptance letter or enrollment verification.
- Photo: A recent photograph (optional, for recognition purposes).
Submission Information
The Providence Community Builders Scholarship opens for submissions annually in the fall, with a final deadline of January 31st each year.

Scholarship recipients are selected in the spring and honored during graduation season, ensuring funds are available for the upcoming fall semester or quarter.
