Jessica Boykins’ connection to The Providence Foundation began during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Growing up without her mother made her childhood challenging, and when she became pregnant with her first child, her father asked her to leave his home. Suddenly homeless, Jessica moved from shelter to shelter with her unborn child and the child’s father, who later became violent. Despite these circumstances, she found the strength to survive domestic violence and continue seeking stability.
Before being exited from the shelter, Jessica applied for an Emergency Housing Voucher — and was granted one. This news arrived in the middle of her struggles and became the turning point that connected her to The Providence Foundation.
Once enrolled, Providence Foundation supported Jessica through her housing search, security deposit, and rent. She also built a meaningful connection with Dr. Lakita Long, whose clinical support helped her navigate major life challenges.
Today, Jessica continues to stabilize her household with the help of Providence Foundation’s Extra Food Fridge Program, which provides supplemental groceries for families facing rising food costs. Providence Foundation’s case managers consistently go above and beyond — meeting families where they are and helping them move forward with dignity, hope, and unwavering support.
