Dear Oasis Team:
After experiencing homelessness since August 7, 2024, a single mother and her daughters entered the Oasis Family Shelter program on April 14, 2025. The journey of the Velasquez family had been filled with challenges, but with consistent support and encouragement, they began to chart a new path forward.
Through dedicated case management and strong community partnerships, the family was awarded a Safer Families housing subsidy through Compass Family Services. This life-changing opportunity opened the door to stability and allowed them to begin planning for their future with confidence.
In their own words, the family shared:
“The Oasis Family Shelter helped me achieve the following goals: find an apartment, save money, and catch up on things like buying my children shoes and clothes. I felt supported, I felt good, and I felt heard. I am grateful for your attention and meeting my needs. I appreciate that this program is accessible and understanding. You all gave me a curfew accommodation, and I was able to keep my job.”
Beyond housing, the Oasis staff also connected the family to vital resources, including youth programs, free clothing, educational opportunities for the head of household, and English learning classes.
On September 10, 2025, the family will officially exit the shelter and begin the next chapter of their lives housed, stable, and equipped with the tools and confidence to keep moving forward.
