At The Oasis Family Shelter, Jessenia Was Finally SEEN

Jessenia Espinnoza had spent much of her life being told what she could not do, what she could not have, and who she would never become.

She was told she would never have children.
She was told she would never escape the cycle she was in.
And, after surviving domestic violence and years of layered trauma, there were moments when even breathing felt like too much to carry.

There was a time when Jessenia was barely holding on—sleeping at a friend’s house, uncertain of what tomorrow would bring, exhausted in every sense of the word. Life had worn her down, piece by piece, until survival itself felt like a question.

But something in her refused to disappear.

That quiet strength led her to COMPASS. It wasn’t a magical fix. At first, it was just a step—an uncertain one. She was placed on a waitlist for shelter, another period of waiting in a life that had already asked her to wait for too much.

Then, finally, her name was called.

She was accepted into Oasis Family Shelter.

From the moment she arrived, something felt different. The environment was warm, steady—safe in a way she hadn’t experienced in a long time. And there, she met her case manager, Tiffany Tolliver.

Tiffany saw her.

Not just as a guest in a program, but as a woman who had endured more than most—and who still had something left inside her worth rebuilding. Tiffany believed in restoration, even when Jessenia wasn’t sure she believed in it herself yet.

At first, Jessenia wasn’t ready. She didn’t want to work. She didn’t see a clear path forward. After everything she had been through, shutting down felt easier than trying again.

But healing doesn’t always arrive as a sudden transformation. Sometimes, it comes quietly, in small, consistent moments.

Weekly check-ins became a turning point.

Little by little, Jessenia began to shift.

She started taking care of herself—eating better, moving her body, showing up for her own life in ways she hadn’t before. Each step was small, but together they became something powerful: momentum.

The change didn’t happen overnight, but it was real.

Jessenia stabilized.
She found structure.
She found pieces of herself she thought were gone.

And then, life gave her something she had once been told she would never have.

Today, Jessenia is the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl.

Not only did she become a mother—she became a good one. A loving, present, and dedicated mom who shows up every day with strength, care, and determination to give her daughter a better life.

She is now in a Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program and actively participating in the Welfare to Work program. She is building a future—one rooted not in survival, but in possibility.

Her journey is not defined by the trauma she endured, but by the strength it took to rise beyond it.

And this is only the beginning.

There is something undeniably powerful about watching someone reclaim their life—not all at once, but step by step, choice by choice.

Jessenia Espinnoza is no longer just surviving.

She is becoming.

A mother.
A fighter.
A woman rewriting her story.

And, her future—and her daughter’s—is filled with more hope than anyone once believed possible!
