For Roxana and her family of six, the journey to finding a place to call home was filled with uncertainty, resilience, and hope. Since 2023, they experienced homelessness as well as moving from one shelter to another while doing everything possible to provide stability for their four young children. In March 2026, they arrived at Oasis Family Shelter, where they found not only safety, but a community that believed in them.
Roxana and her partner, Angel, worked tirelessly as delivery drivers throughout San Francisco to support their growing family. After the birth of their youngest child, Roxana made the difficult decision to leave her job so she could care for their newborn and three older children. From that point forward, Angel became the family’s sole provider, working long hours to ensure they had what they needed while never losing sight of their dream of having a home of their own.
Although the shelter provided temporary housing, Oasis became much more than a place to sleep. It gave the family the stability they needed to focus on rebuilding their lives. While Roxana worked toward securing permanent housing, her children had a safe, welcoming environment where they could rest, play, and simply be children without the uncertainty of where they would sleep each night.
Throughout their stay, Roxana met weekly with her Case Manager, Sam, who worked closely with the family to ensure they remained on track toward their housing and personal goals. Together, they created action plans, connected Roxana with community resources, and addressed barriers as they arose. From housing navigation and financial planning to food assistance, clothing resources, and referrals to supportive services, each meeting helped move the family one step closer to permanent housing. During times when the process felt overwhelming, Sam provided encouragement and reassurance, reminding Roxana that she was not navigating the journey alone.
Despite their unwavering determination, the emotional weight of homelessness was especially difficult for their children. Roxana often shared how heartbreaking it was to hear her daughter and two sons ask when they would finally have a home again. Even during those challenging moments, she remained deeply grateful for the support her family received at Oasis.
Reflecting on their experience, Roxana shared, “They helped me with meals and a place to sleep after I had been removed from another shelter. Honestly, I was very happy to be here.” When Case Manager, Sam, asked how her children felt about their time at Oasis, Roxana smiled and replied, “They were happy when they arrived here, and they are happy about the help you gave us.”
For Sam, those words were a powerful reminder that while Oasis Family Shelter could never replace the comfort of a permanent home, it could provide families with the security, compassion, and support they needed while taking meaningful steps toward one.
That next step came sooner than anyone expected.
Roxana received a life-changing phone call from a Housing Navigator at Homeless Prenatal Program, who shared the exciting news that they would work to secure permanent housing for her family within 90 days. In what felt nothing short of a miracle, just 22 days later, Roxana and her family were approved for the perfect three-bedroom apartment in Daly City, with a move-in date of July 3, 2026.
As the family prepared to begin this new chapter, Oasis Family Shelter and Homeless Prenatal Program continued working together to ensure their transition would be successful. The Homeless Prenatal Program coordinated furniture assistance so the family’s new apartment could truly feel like a home from day one. Case Manager, Sam, arranged movers to transport the family’s belongings, connected Roxana with local food banks and clothing resources, and provided information about highly rated public schools in the Daly City area to help ease the transition for her children. Every detail was thoughtfully planned to help the family move forward with confidence and stability.
The day Roxana and her family walked through the doors of their new home marked more than the end of homelessness—it marked the beginning of a future filled with stability, opportunity, and renewed hope. Their journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, the strength of family, and the profound impact that compassionate, consistent case management can have when paired with a community committed to helping families succeed.
Filled with gratitude, Roxana expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Oasis Family Shelter staff and everyone who stood beside her family during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Thanks to that support, what once seemed like a distant dream had finally become a reality: a safe, stable home where her children could grow, thrive, and create lasting memories together!
